Target Information

Spondin-2 is a cell adhesion protein that facilitates the adhesion and outgrowth of embryonic hippocampal neurons. It directly binds to bacteria and their components, acting as an opsonin to enhance macrophage phagocytosis of bacteria, and also binds to bacterial lipopolysaccharide. Spondin-2 is crucial in initiating the innate immune response, serving as a distinctive pattern-recognition molecule in the extracellular matrix for microbial pathogens. In mouse models, a deficiency in SPON2 significantly hinders macrophage migration and function, indicating its vital role in immune regulation.
