Target Information
Regenerating islet-derived protein 3-alpha is a bactericidal C-type lectin. Its inability to bind peptidoglycan may be attributed to the absence of the EPN motif. In mice, the primary roles of REG3A (regenerative insulin protein 3A) include regulating glucose homeostasis, enhancing insulin sensitivity, and combating oxidative stress. In obese mice, the overexpression of human REG3A significantly improves insulin sensitivity without altering insulin secretion, indicating that REG3A's mode of action primarily involves enhancing insulin signaling rather than directly stimulating insulin release. Additionally, REG3A promotes glucose uptake by reducing oxidative stress and activating the AMPK pathway.
