Target Information
Eosinophil peroxidase (EPX) is an enzyme that facilitates the tyrosine nitration of secondary granule proteins in mature, resting eosinophils. In mice, EPX serves a variety of critical functions, including immune defense, inflammation regulation, bone homeostasis maintenance, intestinal barrier repair, and vascular function modulation. As a major component of eosinophil cytoplasmic granules, EPX exerts its effects by catalyzing oxidation reactions. For instance, in the context of allergic airway inflammation, EPX combats pathogens and parasitic infections through the release of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and hydrogen halides, such as hypobromous acid, highlighting its role in host defense and inflammatory responses.
