Target Information

Interleukin-1 alpha (IL-1 alpha) is a cytokine within the interleukin 1 family, playing a key role in triggering inflammation and promoting fever and sepsis. It is primarily produced by activated macrophages, but is also synthesized by neutrophils, epithelial cells, and endothelial cells. IL-1a can activate endothelial cells, which line blood vessels. It contributes to the activation of the innate and adaptive immune responses. Guinea pigs are extensively used as models for respiratory diseases, particularly asthma and allergic airway inflammation. IL-1alpha's role in these conditions has been investigated in guinea pig models.
