Target Information
Growth Differentiation Factor 8 (GDF8), also known as myostatin, is a protein encoded by the MSTN gene in cattle. It is a myokine produced and released by myocytes (muscle cells). It acts on muscle cells to inhibit muscle growth. Essentially, myostatin is a negative regulator of skeletal and cardiac muscle. It has been identified as the causative factor behind enhanced muscle development.
