Target Information

Interferon tau (IFNτ), also known as IFNT, is a Type I interferon composed of a single chain of amino acids. It was initially discovered in ruminants as the signal for maternal recognition of pregnancy and was originally named ovine trophoblast protein-1 (oTP-1). Interferon tau-1 is encoded by the bovine gene IFNT1. Interferon-τ is a major product of the ovine and bovine conceptus during the period before the trophoblast becomes firmly attached to the uterine wall and begins to form a placenta.
