Target Information

Pleiotrophin is a secreted growth factor that transmits its signals through cell-surface proteoglycan and non-proteoglycan receptors. It binds to cell-surface proteoglycan receptors via their chondroitin sulfate (CS) groups. In mice, PTN exhibits a remarkable spatiotemporal expression pattern during embryonic development. Initially, in the early embryonic stages, PTN is predominantly expressed in the neural plate and notochord, gradually shifting to specific areas of the central nervous system, such as gray and white matter, as development progresses. Additionally, PTN is involved in the proliferation and differentiation of fetal alveolar epithelial cells.
