Target Information
Amylin, also known as IAPP (Islet Amyloid Polypeptide), is a peptide hormone that regulates glucose and plays a key role in maintaining energy balance. It specifically inhibits the insulin-triggered usage of glucose and glycogen storage in muscles without affecting the glucose metabolism in fat cells. The function of IAPP is facilitated through the CALCR-RAMPs (AMYRs) receptor complexes. Amylin can also interact with the CALCR receptor without RAMPs, although it has a stronger affinity for AMYRs. In mice, it is encoded by the Iapp gene.
