Target Information
Cyclic AMP-dependent transcription factor ATF-6 alpha is initially present as a precursor embedded in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. Under endoplasmic reticulum stress, this precursor is processed to release the transcription factor form, which translocates to the nucleus and activates genes involved in the unfolded protein response (UPR). In mice, ATF6 (activating transcription factor 6) is involved in various biological processes and disease models, primarily functioning through endoplasmic reticulum stress (ER stress)-related signaling pathways. ATF6 plays a protective role in cardiomyocytes against ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury by upregulating anti-apoptotic and antioxidant genes in the heart. Studies have shown that ATF6 activation induces the expression of ER stress response-related proteins, such as GRP78 and GRP94, thereby reducing apoptosis and necrosis in cardiomyocytes.
