Target Information
Interferon beta is a type I interferon cytokine crucial in the innate immune response to infections, tumor development, and other inflammatory triggers. It signals by binding to high-affinity (IFNAR2) and low-affinity (IFNAR1) heterodimeric receptors, thereby activating the canonical Jak-STAT signaling pathway. This activation leads to the transcriptional activation or repression of interferon-regulated genes, which encode effectors of the interferon response, including antiviral proteins, cell proliferation and differentiation regulators, and immunoregulatory proteins. Interferon β has demonstrated significant anti-tumor activity in mouse tumor models. For instance, adenovirus-mediated IFN-β gene therapy can effectively inhibit tumor growth and induce tumor regression. In immunodeficient mice, IFN-β has exhibited notable anti-tumor effects by directly inhibiting tumor cell proliferation and survival.
