Target Information

Type II collagen is the major structural component of articular cartilage. Type II collagen forms the structural framework of hyaline cartilage, which covers the ends of bones at joint surfaces. It is composed of three identical α-chains that form collagen fibrils. Collagenases were the only connective tissue proteases known to initiate the intrahelical cleavage and denaturation of type II collagen.
