Target Information
Leukemia inhibitory factor can induce terminal differentiation in leukemic cells. Its functions include promoting hematopoietic differentiation in both normal and myeloid leukemia cells, inducing neuronal cell differentiation, and stimulating acute-phase protein synthesis in hepatocytes. In mice, this factor is encoded by the LIF gene. LIF can promote self-renewal of neural stem cells in the forebrain of mouse embryonic forebrain and support the generation and maturation of sensory neurons. LIF has a wide range of biological functions in mice, involving hematopoiesis, nervous system development, inflammatory response, tissue regeneration, and embryo implantation.
