Target Information

Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase catalytic subunit type 3 (PIK3C3) is a catalytic component of the PI3K complex responsible for the formation of phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate. Different complex forms are thought to play distinct roles in membrane trafficking pathways: PI3KC3-C1 is implicated in the initiation of autophagosomes, while PI3KC3-C2 is involved in the maturation of autophagosomes and endocytosis. The loss of PIK3C3 reduces autophagic activity in the adipose tissue of aged mice but does not significantly impact obesity or glucose tolerance. Nonetheless, this mutation enhances insulin resistance and glucose tolerance in older mice.
