Target Information
Copeptin is a polypeptide co-secreted with antidiuretic hormone (AVP) and vasopressin, primarily involved in regulating water-salt balance and blood glucose levels. It may mediate insulin resistance through the V1a receptor. Studies have shown that copeptin levels significantly increase in a mouse model lacking AVP, and these mice exhibit higher insulin sensitivity and hypoglycemia, indicating that copeptin might influence insulin sensitivity through varied mechanisms in mice. In the ventral hypothalamic mammillary bodies (PVH) of mice, copeptin expression is linked to adrenalectomy (ADX). ADX leads to a rise in the number of copeptin-expressing neurons, potentially related to an increase in magnocellular AVP neurons. This suggests that copeptin could play a role in functions related to water-salt balance and endocrine regulation within the nervous system.
