Target Information

Matrix metalloproteinase-14 is an endopeptidase that degrades various components of the extracellular matrix, such as collagen, and is crucial for pericellular collagenolysis and the modeling of skeletal and extraskeletal connective tissues during development. In mice, matrix metalloproteinase-14 (MMP-14) plays significant roles in tissue homeostasis, disease occurrence, and both physiological and pathological processes. Mice lacking MMP-14 exhibit severe skeletal developmental abnormalities, including skull deformity, a short nose, and an enlarged skull, highlighting its importance in bone and cartilage formation. Moreover, MMP-14 is involved in regulating the metabolic balance of adipose tissue; its overexpression can cause adipose tissue expansion in obese mice and induce local inflammation.
