Target Information

In mice, intact parathyroid hormone (I-PTH) primarily contributes to the formation and mineralization of bones and cartilage, as well as the regulation of bone metabolism. I-PTH has notable osteogenic effects, particularly in areas like the mandibular condylar cartilage (MCC) and temporomandibular joint cartilage, where it promotes cell proliferation, enhances extracellular matrix protein distribution, and improves cartilage thickness and mineralization levels. Under pathological conditions, such as chronic renal failure or following thyroidectomy, fluctuations in I-PTH levels can impact calcium-phosphorus metabolism and bone density. For instance, after thyroidectomy, increased I-PTH levels are closely associated with the development of postoperative hypocalcemia.
