Target Information

Guanylin acts as an endogenous activator of intestinal guanylate cyclase, stimulating the enzyme via the same receptor binding region targeted by heat-stable enterotoxins. In a DSS-induced colitis mouse model, the expression levels of GUCA2A were reduced, correlating with compromised intestinal barrier function and heightened inflammation. In the mouse intestine, GUCA2A expression varied along the intestinal axis, gradually increasing from the small intestine to the large intestine, where it reached its peak. This distribution pattern suggests that GUCA2A may serve distinct roles in different regions of the intestine. In mice with diet-induced obesity, lower levels of GUCA2A expression were linked to decreased pancreatic fat accumulation and diminished inflammation.
