Target Information
Ghrelin (Growth Hormone-Releasing Peptide) is a hormone mainly produced by the enteroendocrine cells in the gastrointestinal tract, particularly the stomach, and is often referred to as the 'hunger hormone' due to its role in increasing appetite. Ghrelin stimulates cells in the anterior pituitary gland and the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus, including neuropeptide Y neurons that trigger appetite. However, earlier research indicated that ghrelin does not influence muscle contractility or motilin-induced contractions in the rabbit duodenum, due to the absence of ghrelin receptors.
