Target Information
Embryonic growth/differentiation factor 1 is thought to mediate cell differentiation during embryonic development. In mice, GDF-1 plays roles in various processes, including nervous system development, protection against heart disease, regulation of obesity-related inflammation, and liver regeneration. In studies focusing on obesity, GDF-1 has been linked to macrophage migration in brown adipose tissue, with research showing that its expression is reduced in obese mice. GDF-1 facilitates macrophage migration via the Smad signaling pathway. Additionally, after partial hepatectomy, GDF-1 expression in the regenerating liver increases and is associated with hepatocyte dedifferentiation. This suggests that GDF-1 may play a crucial role in liver regeneration.
