Target Information
2',5'-Oligoadenylate synthase (OAS) is an enzyme stimulated by interferon (IFN), primarily functioning to activate RNase L by recognizing pathogen-associated double-stranded RNA (dsRNA). This activation leads to RNA and mRNA degradation, thereby inhibiting viral replication and infection. A deficiency in 2',5'-OAS1 may enhance an effective anti-tumor immune response by boosting type I interferon production. In mice, 2',5'-OAS also plays a role in maintaining the stability of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) mRNA, thus offering protection against atherosclerosis. Additionally, in mice, 2',5'-OAS has been linked to certain diseases; for instance, OAS1 expression may be associated with the progression of conditions like cholestasis and hepatotoxic liver injury.
