Target Information
B-FABP may play a role in transporting an unidentified hydrophobic ligand that could have morphogenic activity during the development of the central nervous system (CNS). It is crucial for forming the radial glial fiber system in the developing brain, which is essential for the migration of immature neurons to form cortical layers. FABP7 is extensively expressed in the mouse brain, particularly in neural stem cells/progenitor cells (NSCs/NPCs) and astrocytes. Research indicates that FABP7 is vital for maintaining NSCs/NPCs, and its absence results in a notable reduction in these cells' differentiation capacity. Furthermore, FABP7 is involved in neuron survival and maturation. In astrocytes, FABP7 is significant in neuron protection by managing mitochondrial function and inflammatory responses.
