Target Information

Type I collagen belongs to group I collagen, known for forming fibrillar structures. In mice, the collagen alpha-1(I) chain (COL1A1) primarily contributes to the structure and function of collagen. Collagen is a major component of the extracellular matrix (ECM) and plays vital biological roles. The collagen alpha-1(I) chain is a key component of type I collagen, which stands as one of the most abundant proteins in humans and animals, found extensively in tissues such as skin, bones, and tendons. The protein encoded by COL1A1 partners with COL1A2 to form the triple helix structure of type I collagen, providing mechanical strength and stability to these tissues.
