Target Information

E-Cadherin, also referred to as Cadherin-1, belongs to a group of calcium-dependent cell adhesion proteins known as cadherins. These proteins preferentially bind to each other in a homophilic manner to link cells together, playing a role in sorting diverse cell types. The CDH1 gene is crucial for regulating cell-cell adhesion, mobility, and proliferation in epithelial cells. In mouse intestinal epithelial cells, E-Cadherin serves as the primary calcium-dependent cell adhesion molecule. It facilitates cell-cell adhesion through homophilic interactions, which are vital for maintaining the structural integrity of epithelial cells. Notably, in a normal mouse intestine, E-Cadherin expression is markedly increased on the surface and within the cytoplasm of intestinal epithelial cells.
