Target Information

Neurotensin receptor type 1 is a G-protein coupled receptor for the tridecapeptide neurotensin (NTS), and its signaling involves G proteins that activate a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system. This signaling pathway activates downstream MAP kinases and protects cells from apoptosis. In mice, Ntsr1 is expressed in the ventromedial tegmental area (VTA) and plays a crucial role in regulating energy balance and body weight. Studies indicate that mice lacking Ntsr1 exhibit increased appetite and weight gain, suggesting that Ntsr1 helps maintain body weight stability by suppressing eating and promoting physical activity.
