Target Information
Delta-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (ALAD), also known as aminolevulinate dehydratase or porphobilinogen synthase, is an enzyme encoded by the ALAD gene in cattle. ALAD is a mitochondrial matrix NAD-dependent dehydrogenase. It catalyzes the second step of the proline degradation pathway. Specifically, it converts pyrroline-5-carboxylate (P5C) to glutamate. ALAD ensures efficient utilization of proline by converting P5C to glutamate. It is the most sensitive effect biomarker for Pb exposure.
