Target Information

Biotin is a water-soluble vitamin extensively involved in numerous vital physiological and metabolic processes in mice. It acts as a cofactor for five biotin-dependent carboxylases, which are crucial for gluconeogenesis, fatty acid synthesis, the tricarboxylic acid cycle, and amino acid metabolism. Biotin deficiency significantly impacts the immune system in mice. Research indicates that a lack of biotin reduces the number of splenic lymphocytes, impairs T cell maturation, and results in abnormal immune functions, such as an increased proportion of CD4+ cells in spleen cells and reduced lymphocyte proliferation. Additionally, biotin deficiency may exacerbate the inflammatory response by affecting the expression of inflammatory factors, such as the upregulation of TNF-α. Furthermore, biotin deficiency can lead to neuronal dysfunction, including demyelination and axonal degeneration, changes that are linked to metabolic encephalopathy.
