Target Information
Secreted phosphoprotein 1 is encoded by the SPP1 gene in sheep. It is also known as osteopontin (OPN). OPN is an acidic glycoprotein that fragments when subjected to freezing and thawing or treated with proteases such as thrombin. It functions as a secreted extracellular matrix (ECM) protein and interacts with various cell surface integrins to promote cell-cell and cell-ECM adhesion and communication. It is widely acknowledged that OPN engages with integrin receptors expressed at the apical surface of the uterine luminal epithelium (LE) and the conceptus trophectoderm, facilitating the attachment of the conceptus to the uterus for implantation.
