Target Information
α-Endorphin demonstrates a significant inhibitory effect in the mouse spleen by suppressing antibody production. This effect is mediated through its binding to opiate-like receptors on splenocytes, and it can be blocked by naloxone, suggesting its mechanism is linked to opioid receptors. Compared to β-endorphin, α-endorphin is more potent in inhibiting antibody production. While β-endorphin can enhance the lymphoproliferative response of mouse splenocytes, α-endorphin does not exhibit this effect, highlighting differences in their immune regulation mechanisms. As a precursor of opioid peptides, α-endorphin may be expressed in various tumors, implying it could have a role in tumor biology.
