Target Information

Growth/differentiation factor 8 (GDF8) is encoded by the MSTN gene in sheep. GDF8 functions primarily as a negative regulator of skeletal muscle growth. Commonly known as myostatin, it belongs to the transforming growth factor (TGF)-β superfamily, although it cannot be classified under the existing TGF-β subfamilies like inhibins or bone morphogenetic proteins.
