Target Information

Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S) is an endogenous androstane steroid produced by the adrenal cortex. It is a metabolite of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and circulates in far greater relative concentrations than DHEA. DHEA can convert into a range of hormones, including androgens and estrogens (the male and female sex hormones). DHEA supplements claim to help with various conditions, including sexual dysfunction, lupus, depression, adrenal insufficiency, cervical cancer, vaginal atrophy, and weight loss. DHEA is normally found in the form of dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS). Both DHEA and DHEA-S have been characterized as glucocorticoid antagonists and are considered indicators of resilience due to their anti-aging, immune-enhancing, and neuroprotective functions.
