Target Information
Thrombospondin-1 is an adhesive glycoprotein that facilitates cell-to-cell and cell-to-matrix interactions. Known for its multifunctionality, it is involved in processes such as inflammation, angiogenesis, wound healing, reactive oxygen species (ROS) signaling, nitrous oxide (NO) signaling, apoptosis, senescence, aging, cellular self-renewal, stemness, and maintaining cardiovascular and metabolic homeostasis. In mice, TSP-1 serves diverse roles, including inhibiting angiogenesis, regulating immune responses, supporting lung health, and influencing the tumor microenvironment. In a mouse model of Sjögren syndrome, the absence of TSP-1 results in inflammation of the lacrimal gland and cornea, highlighting its significance in maintaining ocular barrier function and suppressing inflammatory responses.
