Target Information
Plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (PAI-1) is a serine protease inhibitor that inhibits TMPRSS7 and serves as the primary inhibitor of tissue-type plasminogen activator (PLAT) and urokinase-type plasminogen activator (PLAU). As an inhibitor of PLAT, PAI-1 is essential for the down-regulation of fibrinolysis and the controlled degradation of blood clots. As a PLAU inhibitor, it plays a role in regulating cell adhesion and spreading. In mice, PAI-1 is involved in various processes, including inflammation, fibrosis, tumor progression, and metabolism-related diseases. In a mouse skin fibrosis model, PAI-1, secreted by Snail, enhances macrophage infiltration and promotes interaction between macrophages and fibroblasts by upregulating intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1) expression on epidermal fibroblasts, thereby advancing the fibrosis process. Mice deficient in PAI-1 exhibit increased energy consumption and anti-obesity effects.
