Target Information
Bovine Pulmonary Surfactant-Associated Protein C is encoded by the SFTPC gene in cattle. It is a vital component of pulmonary surfactant. SP-C plays a crucial role in reducing surface tension within the alveoli (tiny air sacs) of the lungs. SP-C consists of two halves: N-terminal propeptide domain and C-terminal BRICHOS domain. SP-C ensures proper lung inflation during breathing. Mutations in the SFTPC gene can lead to lung diseases.
