Target Information
BH3-interacting domain death agonist (Bid) induces caspase activation and apoptosis by counteracting the protective effects of BCL2. As a member of the BH3-only family, Bid is characterized by having only a BH3 domain. It interacts with anti-apoptotic proteins Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL through this domain, promoting their hydrolysis, which leads to increased mitochondrial outer membrane permeability (MOMP) and initiates cell apoptosis. In mice, Bid expression is regulated by various signals; for instance, within the Fas signaling pathway, Bid is activated and plays a role in inducing hepatocyte apoptosis.
