Target Information
Transaldolase 1 (TALDO1) is a key enzyme in the nonoxidative pentose phosphate pathway. TALDO1 provides ribose-5-phosphate for nucleic acid synthesis and NADPH for lipid biosynthesis. This pathway also helps maintain glutathione in a reduced state, protecting cellular integrity from oxygen radicals. Bovine Transaldolase is encoded by the TALDO1 gene in cattle. It is a rate-limiting enzyme involved in the pentose phosphate pathway, which is traditionally thought to occur in the cytoplasm.
