Target Information

Gastric inhibitory polypeptide is a powerful stimulator of insulin secretion but a relatively weak inhibitor of gastric acid secretion. In mice, its function spans various physiological and pathological roles, including insulin secretion, fat accumulation, bone metabolism, obesity, and diabetes. Research indicates that GIP (gastric inhibitory polypeptide) can significantly enhance insulin sensitivity and reduce blood sugar fluctuations in mice made obese by a high-fat diet. Furthermore, GIP's involvement in obesity-related diabetes has been confirmed. For instance, in obese mice, excessive GIP secretion is closely associated with insulin resistance and abnormal pancreatic beta-cell function. Additionally, GIP receptor antagonists have been shown to inhibit weight gain in mice fed a high-fat diet, underscoring GIP's critical role in fat accumulation.
