Target Information

Prostaglandin-H2 D-isomerase catalyzes the transformation of PGH2 to PGD2, a prostaglandin that plays a role in smooth muscle contraction and relaxation and serves as a potent inhibitor of platelet aggregation. It is involved in various functions within the central nervous system, such as sedation, non-REM sleep, and PGE2-induced allodynia, and may have an anti-apoptotic effect on oligodendrocytes. Prostaglandin-H2 D-isomerase also binds small non-substrate lipophilic molecules like biliverdin, bilirubin, retinal, retinoic acid, and thyroid hormone, potentially acting as a scavenger for harmful hydrophobic molecules and serving as a secretory transporter for retinoids and thyroid hormones. In mice, the functions of Ptgds are broad and varied, affecting hair growth, reproductive system development, central nervous system function, inflammatory response, metabolic regulation, and more. During the hair growth cycle in mice, Ptgds expression is closely linked to the hair follicle cycle. Research indicates that in the late stage of hair growth (late anagen), the expression levels of Ptgds and its product PGD2 rise significantly and are negatively correlated with the hair growth-promoting factor β-catenin.
