Target Information

Cyclic Guanosine Monophosphate (cGMP) is a cyclic nucleotide derived from guanosine triphosphate (GTP). It acts as a second messenger, much like cyclic AMP, and is involved in regulating ion channel conductance, glycogenolysis, and cellular apoptosis. It has been reported that lambs with persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN) demonstrate increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) and altered sGC and PDE5 activity, with resultant decreased cGMP.
