Target Information
In mice, the coagulation factor XIII B polypeptide is crucial in the final stage of blood coagulation, focusing on the formation and stabilization of the fibrin network. This factor functions within platelets and plasma through its B subunit (FXIII-B), partnering with the coagulation factor XIII A subunit to form a heterotetramer that stabilizes and cross-links the fibrin network. As a key factor in the coagulation process, the B subunit (FXIII-B) facilitates covalent cross-links on the γ chain of fibrin, enhancing the fibrin network's mechanical strength and protecting it from degradation by plasmin. FXIII-B is activated by binding with thrombin and calcium ions in the plasma, endowing it with transglutaminase activity and enabling further cross-linking of fibrin.
