Target Information

Fibroblast Growth Factor 2 (FGF2) serves as a ligand for the receptors FGFR1, FGFR2, FGFR3, and FGFR4. Additionally, it functions as an integrin ligand essential for FGF2 signaling. FGF2 performs various biological roles in mice, with its specific effects differing based on the tissue and environmental context. For instance, in bone formation and angiogenesis, FGF2 primarily operates through the Wnt signaling pathway. Conversely, in tumor development and metabolic regulation, other signaling pathways or mechanisms might be involved. In Col3.1-FGF2 transgenic mice, FGF2 expression significantly enhances bone density and mineralization while decreasing the expression of the Wnt antagonist sFRP1.
