Target Information
Semaphorin-3A is involved in guiding growth cones and may function to pattern sensory projections by selectively repelling axons that usually terminate dorsally. It plays a role in the development of the olfactory system and in the neuronal control of puberty. As an axon-repelling molecule, Sema3A regulates neuronal migration and the direction of axon growth by interacting with neuronal precursors and projection neurons. In mice, the absence of Sema3A results in abnormal neuronal projections, including atypical localization of olfactory bulb neurons and defects in the regionalization of the visual cortex.
