Specifications
Target Information
The enzyme ornithine decarboxylase (EC 4.1.1.17, ODC) catalyzes the decarboxylation of ornithine (a product of the urea cycle) to form putrescine. This reaction is the committed step in polyamine synthesis. The active form of ornithine decarboxylase is a homodimer. Bovine Ornithine Decarboxylase is encoded by the ODC1 gene in cattle. It is considered the rate-controlling enzyme for the classical de novo biosynthesis of polyamines in mammals.
