Target Information

Serum Amyloid A (SAA) proteins are a family of apolipoproteins associated with high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in plasma. These proteins serve various roles, including: transporting cholesterol to the liver for secretion into bile; recruiting immune cells to inflammatory sites; inducing enzymes that degrade extracellular matrix. It is implicated in chronic inflammatory diseases like amyloidosis, atherosclerosis, and rheumatoid arthritis. SAA has been associated with the development of several chronic diseases. For example, SAA is recognized as a potential causative factor in diseases such as atherosclerosis and myeloma. It has the potential to indicate the current status of sheep scab infection.
