Target Information

Chemokine C-X-C motif ligand 16 (CXCL16) triggers a robust chemotactic response and induces calcium mobilization. It binds to the receptor CXCR6/Bonzo and serves as a scavenger receptor on macrophages, specifically binding to oxidized low-density lipoprotein (OxLDL), indicating its potential involvement in pathologies such as atherogenesis. In mice, CXCL16's functions are complex and varied, encompassing roles in promoting inflammation and tissue damage, as well as facilitating tissue repair and providing neuroprotective effects. In an acute pancreatic necrosis model, CXCL16 is expressed by pancreatic acinar cells and promotes their apoptosis. Additionally, CXCL16 has shown neuroprotective potential; for instance, in a mouse cerebral ischemia model, it reduces cerebral infarct volume, thereby exerting neuroprotective effects.
