Bovine Alkaline Phosphatase, Tissue-Nonspecific Isozyme is encoded by the ALPL gene in cattle. It is a key enzyme responsible for the mineralization of skeletal tissues. It is involved in the dephosphorylation of several physiological substrates and has vital physiological functions, including extra-skeletal functions such as neuronal development, detoxification of lipopolysaccharide (LPS), an anti-inflammatory role, regulation of bile pH, and maintenance of the blood-brain barrier.
