Target Information
S100A7, also known as psoriasin, is a calcium-binding protein prevalent in mammalian epidermal cells. In mice, S100A7 is involved in various functions, including tumor development, inflammatory response, wound healing, and antibacterial activity. Unlike its human counterpart, mouse S100A7 cannot function as a bacterial zinc source, limiting its use in certain bacterial infection studies due to the lack of a "zinc stealing" mechanism. S100A7 plays a dual role in cancer, with the ability to either promote or inhibit tumor development across various types. Additionally, S100A7 is important in inflammatory responses. Research indicates that it can enhance the mitochondrial function of epidermal cells and increase the secretion of IL-6 and IL-8, thereby contributing to the amplification of inflammatory signals.
