Target Information

The platelet glycoprotein Ib beta chain is a surface membrane protein on platelets that contributes to the formation of platelet plugs by binding to von Willebrand factor, which is attached to the subendothelium. In mice, the primary role of the platelet glycoprotein Ib (GPIb) β chain is to facilitate the binding of platelets to the vascular subendothelial matrix, leading to platelet activation and aggregation. GPIb is a transmembrane protein consisting of α and β chains, linked by disulfide bonds to form the GPIb-IX-V complex. This complex is a principal receptor on the platelet surface responsible for binding to von Willebrand factor (vWF).
