Target Information
Mouse Glutamate-Cysteine Ligase Catalytic Subunit (Gclc) is a key enzyme in the synthesis of glutathione, a major antioxidant in cells. It catalyzes the first and rate-limiting step in glutathione production by forming the γ-glutamyl-cysteine intermediate. Gclc is essential for maintaining cellular redox balance and protecting cells from oxidative stress. In mouse models, Gclc deficiency leads to increased oxidative damage and sensitivity to pro-oxidant agents. Additionally, Gclc plays a role in detoxification processes and is involved in the regulation of immune responses.
