Feline CD279, commonly known as PD-1, is a type I transmembrane inhibitory receptor primarily expressed on the surface of activated T-cells, B-cells, and myeloid cells. It plays a pivotal role in maintaining peripheral tolerance and preventing autoimmunity by interacting with its ligands, CD274 (PD-L1) and CD273 (PD-L2). In veterinary medicine, CD279 is a major target for cancer immunotherapy; its blockade can reinvigorate "exhausted" T-cells to combat feline infectious diseases like FIV and various malignant tumors.
