Target Information
Canine interleukin-31 (IL-31) is a cytokine that plays a significant role in immune responses, particularly in skin inflammation and itch sensation. It is produced by T helper 2 lymphocytes and skin homing T cells. IL-31 signaling is initiated by binding to two receptors, IL-31 receptor alpha (IL-31RA) and oncostatin M receptor subunit beta (OSMRβ). This cytokine is involved in the activation of JAK/STAT, PI3K/AKT, and MAPK-JNK/p38 pathways, which can lead to the upregulation of receptors like TRPV1 and TRPA1, enhancing neuronal excitability and contributing to chronic itch conditions such as atopic dermatitis. IL-31 is also implicated in the production of inflammatory mediators and the modulation of immune responses in dogs.
